Jaffa Flea Market -
"Shuk Hapishpeshim " in Yafo
Located in Yafo- Jaffa, south of the famous
Clock Tower and right across from the apartment in
Han Manuli
Building (map), this market sells almost
everything. Tradition has it that you can get the best buys here early
Sunday morning. If you are the first customer on the first day of the
week, the seller hopes a quick sale will bring him luck through the
week. This market sells almost everything. Merchandise does vary, but
copper, brass, old Persian tiles, and jewelry are always to be found, as
well as Judaica items, old family photo albums, used jeans and clothing
from India. Language may be a problem, but you can get a lot
understood with your hands. It's great fun even if you don't buy
anything. Combine the market with an exploration of Old Jaffa and a
leisurely, interesting lunch.
The Flea Market in Jaffa is one of the more
charming places to walk around. The real day of activity is Friday and
Saturday Night after the Shabbat closes, when all the shops take out
their merchandise on to the street. The flea market is
open Sunday to Thursday from 10am to 6pm and on Friday from 10am to 2pm. |
